Is Getting a Root Canal Painful?

TRANSCRIPT: Getting a root canal should not be painful. In fact, anything we do in dentistry should not be painful. That goes back to being in a big group practice where you’re a number, versus a boutique practice where they set aside extra time to allow you to get numb. I’ve had patients where it’s taken them 10 minutes to get numb. I’ve had patients where it takes them a minute to get numb. Everybody is different, sometimes you have to go in there and double up on the anesthetic. Well, we schedule for that. We allot more time so that in case that happens, we want to make sure that you’re comfortable, we want to make sure that you’re fully numb. So, root canals should not hurt, a filling should not hurt, an extraction should not hurt, an implant – we place implants here – those should not hurt.
