What are Lumineers?
Lumineers are a brand of veneers that can improve the appearance of dental concerns. These veneers are thinner than traditional ones and get their strength from a patented porcelain material. Though Lumineers are different from traditional veneers in their thickness and composition, they can correct many of the same concerns.
- Mild to moderate discoloration
- Abnormally shaped teeth
- Small teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Chips and cracks
- Worn out teeth
Because they are so thin, Lumineers may not be appropriate if you have more pronounced cosmetic issues as they may not sufficiently conceal severe discoloration or staining. Dr. Loveless will keep this in mind while evaluating your candidacy.
Benefits of Lumineers
There have been so many advancements in the field of dentistry which allow patients to be picky when choosing the right cosmetic treatment. While Lumineers may not be the right choice for every patient, they are an exciting and innovative option.
Lumineers offer patients several desirable benefits, including that they:
- Are thinner than traditional veneers
- Are translucent and mimic the appearance of natural tooth enamel
- Require little to no tooth preparation
- Can be applied in a pain-free way
- Cause no post placement discomfort or sensitivity
- Can typically be professionally removed, making the process reversible
- Only require two dental visits on average

Veneers vs. Lumineers
When placing traditional veneers, Dr. Loveless must first prepare your tooth by removing a small amount of your natural enamel. This preparation will allow your veneers to fit snugly into your smile. However, this step can cause mild discomfort, and it also makes the placement of your veneers irreversible.
Lumineers, on the other hand, often require minimal to no tooth prep, meaning that in many cases, your treatment can be reversed without impacting your natural teeth. It also decreases the risk of other issues such as tooth sensitivity. Lumineers often require two dental visits, while other veneers require three visits on average. With Lumineers, there is no need to wear any temporary veneers between visits like you would with traditional veneers.
