The University of Texas School of Dentistry has been making a difference in impoverished children’s lives by providing a mobile van that brings dentistry to children who cannot afford to go to the dentist.
The UT School of Dentistry works with the Communities in Schools project in Houston to allow children in low-budget school districts to receive dental care. The van recently stopped by the Boys and Girls Club in Spring Branch to give children dental exams, including X-rays and cleanings, and to perform procedures such as extractions and fillings.
For many children who visit the dental van, it is their first checkup with a dentist. The van, with the help of Communities in Schools, brings dentistry to 1,500 children each year.
