Dentists all over the country are celebrating the National Dental Hygiene Month by stressing the importance of dental health, not only for your mouth, but for overall health and well being.
This year’s theme is “It’s simple. Healthy habits for a healthy smile.” That means brushing and flossing daily and visiting the dentist at least every six months. Ignoring swollen gums or decaying teeth can lead to serious and invasive treatments in the future, not including the elevated risk of other health problems. Some oral diseases are contagious.
Poor oral hygiene can lead to heart disease, diabetic complications, and pregnancy problems.
