Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom teeth are the very back set of molars that people have. While some do not have to be removed, many people have their wisdom teeth extracted at some point in their lives. While this process is often much like other tooth extraction procedures, it can vary because of the particular conditions of a person’s wisdom teeth. However, for many people undergoing this dental treatment, the process does look very similar.

How They Are Extracted

Wisdom teeth extraction typically follows a standard pattern, so you can know pretty much exactly what to expect when undergoing this process. Usually, the wisdom teeth extraction process involves:

  • The use of anesthesia to numb the areas around extraction points and to put the person under for the procedure
  • Surgical removal of wisdom teeth (one – four teeth)
  • Application of antibiotics to avoid subsequent pain
  • Reducing potential swelling with cold compress
  • Potential future visits to dentist to ensure proper healing

This process is undergone by millions of people in the U.S., but might affect people differently, depending on their tolerance of invasive surgical procedures. However, most people see few, if any, problems after the extraction of their wisdom teeth, especially if they have a skilled dentist.
