Don’t ignore children’s oral health

Posted on October 26th, 2011 No Comments

A new report by the University of Michigan Health System suggests that most children one to two-years old are not receiving proper oral care.

Earlier this year, the National Poll on Children’s Health found that only 23% of one year-olds had been to a dentist and only 44% of two year-olds had been to a dentist. Researchers say that cavities in baby teeth, called caries, are the number one cause of chronic disease in young children.

Experts suggest that parents should ask about their child’s oral health with their pediatrician during well-child visits. On average, the researchers found that less than half of health care providers discussed children’s oral health to parents.

If you have a young child who has not been to the dentist yet, contact the Austin dental experts of Bridgeview dental by calling 512-347-8299 today.
