Root canal infections and therapies

Posted on February 28th, 2011 No Comments

An infected tooth can cause serious discomfort and make it painful to eat or drink hot or cold liquids.  The root canal infection is when one of the canals of a tooth, which is a passageway that connects the roots of the teeth, is infected and this causes it to spread out.

After the root spreads it becomes inflamed and causes severe discomfort. In order to prevent further infection and pain, the diseased root can be treated without having to remove the tooth.

The therapy includes drilling a small hole into the pulp of the tooth and removing the infected tissue from the inner chamber. Once removed, the chamber is disinfected and cleaned and dental fillings are put into the empty area. The tooth is then capped with a crown in order to prevent further infection.
