What you should know about getting dental veneers

Posted on May 21st, 2013 No Comments

People who want or have to get dental veneers to improve their teeth usually require diagnosis, tooth preparation, and bonding.

The first appointment with the dentist consists of an examination to determine if veneers are appropriate for the person. If the dentist decides that dental veneers are necessary, the tooth of the person will be prepared for veneering by removing ½ millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface. Local anesthesia may be applied for people with ultra-sensitive teeth.

Next, a model of your tooth will be made, which will be sent to a lab where the veneer will be constructed. This usually takes 1-2 weeks. Once the veneer is made, the dentist will fit it to the person’s tooth and examine it. Trimming and color adjustment of the veneer can be done before it is permanently cemented to the tooth. The veneer is then polished and will undergo evaluations once it is permanently fixed to the tooth.

At BridgeView Dental, our dentists proudly offer both traditional veneers and LUMINEERS BY CERINATE. Learn about these two different types of veneers and what your teeth need by calling 512-347-8299.

Zirconia crowns touted as unbreakable

Posted on May 2nd, 2013 No Comments

A new material called zirconia is being used to make tooth crowns and is claimed to be unbreakable, a major difference from the traditional porcelain material.

Zirconia will potentially have a large change in the dentistry field as the crown is purportedly indestructible. Also known as ceramic steel, zirconia crown is ideally used for people who grind their back molars, as this can cause a regular crown to break. As the zirconia crown is hammered, unlike porcelain, it is able to withstand greater use and force overtime.

A Houston lab produces these zirconia crowns, which cost around $800-$1,200 and is similar in price to the traditional porcelain crown.

If you are in need of a crown or crown repair, our dental professionals at BridgeView Dental can help you. Call 512-347-8299 to learn more about our services and how we can help you alleviate any dental pain from which you are suffering.

Army’s improved dental health means combat readiness for soldiers

Posted on March 23rd, 2013 No Comments

Soldiers’ combat readiness can be improved by providing them with dental treatment in the field, according to experts.

During a Warrior Exercise at Fort Hunter Liggett, California that took place on March 18, U.S. Army Col. Enrique Garcia said soldiers are more “deployable” if dental treatment is provided in the field. More than 3,500 soldiers were able to benefit from the dental treatment provided in the field that bypasses the voucher system otherwise provided by the military that could take days or months for a solider to get treatment. According to Garcia, a toothache can take a soldier “out of the mix,” like other injuries.

With dental treatment in the field, commanders can have their troops examined and improve their deployment classification if they have not been examined over a year.

Getting quality dental work is a priority for most people. In order to receive the top-of-the-line care you want, call the dental experts of Bridgeview Dental at 512-347-8299 and schedule an appointment today.

Posted on March 4th, 2013 No Comments

According to a new survey posted in the Journal of the American Dental Association, at least one out of eight adults has sensitive teeth.

University of Washington research assistant professor Dr. Joana Cunha-Cruz said sensitive teeth were common in young adults and those who have receding gums. Additionally, people who do tooth whitening at home may also have sensitive teeth. According to the researchers, it was found that people who have sensitive teeth may avoid some foods and this sensitivity can impact their lives. At least 37 general dental practitioners were included in the recent survey and 787 adults were surveyed.

Cunha-Cruz said that the survey’s findings can help dentists better treat this condition and be aware of how many people are affected.

Whether you have sensitive teeth or other dental problems or needs, you need a dentist who is qualified and dedicated to providing you with exceptional customer service. Schedule an appointment today with Bridgeview Dental by calling 512-347-8299.

Tips to keep your smile white and bright

Posted on November 7th, 2012 No Comments

Everyone wants a shining smile that they can feel confident showing, but sometimes it can be difficult to maintain. Certain foods or habits can make a real difference in the appearance of your teeth.

Certain drinks such as coffee, wine, and colas can stain your teeth over long periods of time. Making sure to rinse your mouth out with water after consuming these kinds of beverages can help reduce their ability to stain your teeth.

Smoking and chewing tobacco can also have a host of negative oral health consequences, including staining your teeth.

One way to counteract staining is to have your teeth whitened. While it is possible to whiten on your own, overdoing it can damage your teeth. Utilizing the services of a professional can help you safely and effectively whiten your teeth.

When faced with dental emergency, time is of the essence

Posted on August 6th, 2012 No Comments

Due to the great increase in playtime children get during the summer, the season is often filled with many more oral injuries than the rest of the year.

When children injure their mouths, especially those who already have their permanent teeth, it is important to respond quickly to increase the chances that a dental professional will be able to successfully perform restorative procedures.

If a tooth is knocked out of a person’s mouth, it should be placed in the most neutral liquid you can find to keep it moist. Milk, water, and saliva work very well for this purpose. Getting to an emergency dental care facility within an hour will give a dentist  the best chance of successfully reimplanting the tooth.

If you are facing a dental emergency, contact the dental emergency experts of Bridgeview Dental at 512-347-8299.
